The story

A ribbed jaali lantern marks the centre of the chain. A spiral conch hangs either side of it and a small fan shell at each end of the run, seven charms in all, every one built up from grains of gold soldered on one at a time.

The links are fine and round, so the charms swing instead of sitting still. At about eighteen inches it falls just under the collarbone, over a kurta collar or a plain round neck.
