The story

At eighteen inches it sits high, so the elephants land forward on the collarbone where they can be seen. Each side piece is nakaas work: a large elephant with its trunk curled under, two smaller ones beside it in beaded howdah saddles, the gold pushed up from behind into temple relief.

Three strands run between them, round shell pearls along the sides, faceted mint green beads across the front, fluted gold melon beads at the centre. There is no centre pendant; the whole design sits on the two sides, so it works on a boat neck as easily as on a saree.
