The story

Red and white together is the oldest pairing in a South Indian jewellery box. Rice pearls and red coral tubes run the length of a single strand, spaced at intervals with small gold filigree balls, and it closes behind the neck with an S-hook.

Long enough to sit over a blouse rather than at the throat. Coral takes a light differently from pearl, so the strand never reads as one flat line of beads.
