The story

Tiers, the way a gopuram goes up: peacocks on one band, kalash on the next, an ornate stud at the top and a dome hanging beneath it.

Dark cabochons sit in the tiers and a row of gold balls runs round the rim, all of it antique gold over 925 sterling silver. It screws on from the back in the South Indian way, and the metalwork carries the piece on its own.
